New housing development to get primary school
A new housing development in Ashford is to get a new primary school and Kent County Council is happy
that Stour Academies Trust is the chosen sponsor to run the school.
The Finberry development at
Cheeseman’s Green, located South
East of Ashford, is to have a new
two-form entry primary school that
will serve as the heart of the Finberry
community.
The school will ultimately take 60
children in each year group,
eventually taking a total of 420.
However, in the first three years of
operation, the admission number
will be 30 with a clear commitment
to serve the Finberry development.
Kent County Council put forward
the Stour Academy Trust as the
preferred sponsor to the
Department of Education following
a competition. Finberry Primary
School will be the fifth school within
the Trust, which aims for all of its
schools to be outstanding.
Sturry CE Primary, its sponsor
school, received an outstanding
judgement by Ofsted just a few
weeks ago. The Trust’s motto,
‘Bringing Learning to Life’, aims to
create an exciting and creative
curriculum that engages all pupils,
regardless of ability, and develops
a life-long love of learning.
The school will host a small
specialist resource based provision
for up to 14 pupils who have
difficulty learning as a result of their
emotional, social or behavioural
needs. The specialist base is
expected to be a centre of
excellence to help other providers
in the area to increase their
expertise.
David Adams, area education officer at Kent County Council, said: “This is
really good news for Ashford and will ensure local children have access to
high quality primary school places.
Although a new build is expected
to be ready for September 2016,
“We will be working closely with the Trust to make sure the school opens
in September 2015.”
The new homes are being built in Ashford by Crest Nicholson
the school will open this September on the old Ashford South Community
School site in Jemmett Road, which is currently being refurbished.
