Modern Chinese, Japanese and Thai Cuisine at
TY-8
OFFERING A VARIED CHOICE OF AUTHENTIC CHINESE, JAPANESE AND THAI
CUISINE, CHISLEHURST'S TY-8 RESTAURANT IS CELEBRATED FOR ITS MODERN
APPROACH TO TRADITIONAL ASIAN FARE. by Catherine Jinks
On arrival at TY 8, my guest and I were greeted
by the restaurant owner, Jade, who freed us of
our coats and escorted us to our table for the
evening. Immediately, the ambience was
welcoming – a relaxing environment in which to
enjoy our dining experience.
Established 10 years ago, TY-8 boasts a regular
clientele that keeps coming back for its good
food and first-class service. The restaurant serves
70 covers, and there is a fabulous private function
room for 28 covers which, perfect for a special
occasion, even has its own bar.
And in case you're wondering (as we were), we
asked Jade what the name 'TY-8' stands for,
and were told 'TY' translates to 'great' and the
number '8' is ‘lucky’, which seemed rather apt
as we felt lucky to be in such a great place!
Serving modern Chinese, Japanese and Thai
cuisine, TY-8 has created a new concept by
fusing the original skills and ingredients used in
oriental cooking with the imaginative use of
Western flavours. For anyone looking to enjoy
some sushi, there is an excellent range to choose
from, in addition to a good selection of Chinese,
Japanese and Thai food in both single dishes
and set menus.
My partner and I chose the TY-8 Fusion menu,
a tempting combination of dishes hailing from
the Far East. To start, we enjoyed a Japaneseinspired tempura mixed platter, which comprised
of tiger prawns, sliced fish fillet, shiitake
mushrooms and asparagus, plus a selection of
dips. This was soon followed by one of my
favourites, Chinese crispy aromatic duck, served
with the staple pancakes, spring onions,
cucumber, and hoisin sauce.
Our main course offered an assortment of dishes
including a fragrant Thai pad pong lamb stir-fry;
chargrilled seabass topped with roasted garlic
and soy sau
