The play depicts the true story of the murder of Thomas Arden
by his wife Alice together with her lover, and their subsequent
discovery and punishment. The author is unknown, but the
play has been attributed to Thomas Kyd, Christopher Marlowe
and William Shakespeare - solely or collaboratively.
It is about passion, violence, infidelity, predatory capitalism,
jealousy and incompetence. If it was written today it could be
described as a dramatised documentary.
It is certainly a black comedy.
Our version sets the action in the present day as the
themes are timeless.
This production has been chosen by The Royal Shakespeare
Company as one of their plays in the Open Stages Project,
which means we have access to RSC workshops.
Arden of Faversham is also entered in the
Kent Drama Association Full Length Play Festival 2015.
