CREATE A CABIN
Create A Cabin is a small Anglo/French family company making pre-fabricated buildings
suitable for cottage industry/artisan food production kitchens. For SMEs, they can provide
offices, changing rooms, shower rooms and restrooms. These can all be installed inside
existing barns or warehouses, usually without the need for planning permission.
Their case study approach provides hands-on
information from existing customers, supplying
details of layout, the volume produced in the
space and useful key numbers. This helps farmers
wishing to diversify into food production make
an informed decision.
Forwardthinking farmers
have moved on
from simply
growing
produce or
rearing livestock
to adding value
and selling the
end product,
often direct to
the customer.
We make this
process simpler
by avoiding the
heath, hygiene, planning and regulatory
challenges that conspire to make this leap
challenging. Issues such as food traceability and
the economic downturn have driven greater
consumer commitment to buying locally sourced
food. Sebastien and Clare from Create A Cabin
think this is a great and growing opportunity.
The materials used to build these shells are
60mm insulated steel panels. They are waterproof
and washable, the walls are hygienic and meet
the health and safety standards for food
preparation. They are made to measure at our
factory and are supplied in flat-pack form for DIY
assembly on site.
The panel buildings range in size from 20sqm to
120sqm, and are delivered within four weeks of
order. They can be erected quickly and cheaply
with construction assistance from our technicians
if required. Purpose-built windows, doors, cold
rooms and changing rooms are added before
the client then connects and installs power and
water, plus additional internal finish to suit a
specific processing task.
The panels are installed horizontally, secured by
a strong steel right angle, to make the structure
rigid and self-supportive. The method of assembly
leaves no gaps in the wall making it insulated,
easier to clean, and vermin-free.
not required if installed under an existing structure,
such as a tithe barn, workshop or Dutch barn.
This allows farmers to control one more link in
the food production chain.
Having achieved success in France over the past
three years, the team feel the time is right to
move to East Kent. Last month they completed
their first UK project in Wiltshire for a farmer
pressing clients’ apples and pears to be bottled
on site. A concrete base was installed before
construction and the 60m2 building was
constructed in two days.
These ‘barns within a barn’ are flexible, food
safe and technically sophisticated.
Create A Cabin will be exhibiting at The Farm
Business Innovation Show at Olympia on 27 and
28 November and look forward to showing their
innovative buildings to farmers looking to move
forward.

The buildings are typically installed inside existing
farm buildings or warehouses by poultry
manufacturers, cheese makers, honey producers,
jam kitchens or vegetable growers wanting to
diversify, or by any SME. Planning permission is
