NEWS OLYMPIC GOLD MEDALLIST OPENS ASHFORD SCHOOL SPORTS CENTRE WHITEFRIARS WINS GOLD Olympic gold medallist, Lizzy Yarnold, officially opened the new Ashford School Sports Centre this September. During the afternoon of activities, Lizzy drew the curtains on the gold plaque that will sit in the entrance to the centre, which houses a Sports England-size hall, changing facilities and a classroom with viewing balconies over the AstroTurf. Lizzy is the 2014 Olympic Skeleton Champion; 2013-14 World Cup Champion; 2012 Junior World Champion; plus, 2012 and 2013 FIBT World Championship Medallist. Lizzy arrived at Ashford at the end of the school day and, after meeting MP Damian Green, the Mayor of Ashford, and other VIPs, she spent time observing the students during different sporting activities including rugby and hockey.
