••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••• welcome Toffee apples, pumpkin lattes and homemade soup – three of my favourite things about autumn. Maybe it’s the kid in me knowing Christmas is just around the corner, but there’s something about October that makes me feel all cosy and content inside. gardening tips for October, staying healthy in the run-up to winter, autumn fashion trends, reviews of some of Kent’s top restaurants, fabulous interiors, delicious recipes and lots more. If the falling leaves and chill in the air leave you feeling like you want to run away from it all, may I suggest an escape to Cornwall’s Boscundle Manor? This idyllic country house is the perfect remedy for the cold weather blues (p106). Hailing from the States – the land of the most extraordinary Halloween celebrations – most years I’ve been slightly disappointed in the spooky offerings in England; but Kent has really upped their goulish game the last few years, and I’m finding it easier than ever to get my Halloween fix. I’m already looking forward to our November and December issues, for obvious reasons. Christmas, Christmas and more Christmas! We’re working on our best Christmas Gift Guide ever, and of course we can’t wait to feature our annual Great Christmas Gift Giveaway, giving you the chance to win over £2,000 in prizes. I’m especially looking forward to the Rare Breeds Centre’s Halloween Daytime Fear and Fun, where my kids (and probably me, too) will dress up in our scariest gear and take part in all the witch-y, ghost-y, creepy, crawly activities. Want to join in the fun? Be in with a chance of winning one of three family tickets – see page 85 for more details. Stay in the loop by joining us on Facebook and Twitter for all the latest and greatest in Kent, and if you have any comments or suggestions, we’d love to hear from you at [email protected]. For the grown-ups, check out some of our top picks for night haunts in Kent (p89), including the scariest of the scary: Broadwitch Hauntfest at Broadditch Farm Shop on 17th-18th October. Or, if you like being scared in more ways than one, how about mixing Halloween horror along with terrifying thrill rides? Thorpe Park’s Fright Nights is back, and we’re giving away a pair of tickets to one lucky insideKENT reader – see page 39 to find out more.
