LAUNCH OF DEMELZA COOKBOOK BY TV CHEF
Chef Richard Phillips, who has appeared on
shows including Ready Steady Cook and
Saturday Kitchen, hosted the launch of a new
charity cookbook at his pub, The Windmill in
Hollingbourne, near Maidstone on Thursday 19th
June.
The Demelza cookbook, which features a
foreword from Mr Phillips, is m ade up of recipes
from Demelza staff, supporters, young people
and volunteers as well as celebrity patrons such
as Robin Cousins, Dave Berry and Cheryl Baker.
Mr Phillips said: “Whether you are cooking for a
crowd or simply looking for inspiration for the
family supper, you will find plenty of great ideas
in this recipe book. Your purchase helps Demelza
to reach even more life-limited and life-threatened
children and their families across Kent, South
East London and East Sussex, giving them the
support and care they need.
“So enjoy some delicious dishes that come with
the added benefit of helping the children and
families who rely on Demelza. Knowing that
makes a great dish taste even better.”
The book is available at Demelza charity shops,
at its hospices in Sittingbourne and Eltham and
by calling 01795 845288 for a suggested donation
of £5.
Liz Haigh-Reeve, director of income generation
at Demelza, said: “The cookbook is a really
important way to help us to raise money and to
bring awareness of Demelza as such a happy
place. It sums up the ethos of what we do at
Demelza – it’s all about family life, it’s all about
making memories.
Sales of the book will help support the charity’s
work in caring for life-limited and life-threatened
children and their families across Kent, South
East London and East Sussex.
“We are already being asked when the next
cookbook will be!”
Guests at the launch event enjoyed a buffet,
which included cupcakes made by volunteer Ali
Ward and chocolate raspberry brownies made
by volunteer Pam Draper, (both from the
cookbook).

CHEGWORTH VALLEY HOSTS
FIRST SUMMER OPEN DAY
The soft fruit harvest is now well underway at Kent-based Chegworth Valley.
With land covering over 200 acres, strawberries and raspberries are now
being picked by the tray-load on a daily basis and will continue harvest
throughout the summer. In addition to soft fruit, the organic farm also grows
a wide variety of salad leaves, tomatoes, fruit and vegetables – all of which
are available seasonally from the farm gate, as well as next day home
delivery throughout Kent.
Although not usually open to the public, Chegworth Valley will be hosting
its first open day – complete with guided tours and juices tastings – on
Sunday 10th August 2014. A unique opportunity, visitors will not only get
the chance to see behind the scenes, but will also gain an interesting insight
into how the fruit and vegetables are grown, with a chance to buy all the
produce on the day. The day will run from 11am – 4pm and booking for
the tours is advisable.
