GETAWAYS Elegance and Romance: The Maiden’s Tower BY PAUL MARTIN For me, nothing conjures images of romance more than the idea of fair maidens, chivalrous knights and breathtaking backdrops – the inspiration of artists and poets alike. Of course the setting is where the real romance lies—the foundation for any great love story—and I can think of no place more romantic than “the loveliest castle in the world”. Leeds Castle, with its history, dramatic elegance and amazing grounds, certainly sets the scene for the most auspicious romantic retreat: The Maiden’s I have to admit, I have a certain affinity with Leeds Castle. I love the serenity, the tranquillity and the awe-inspiring ambiance of the Castle and its grounds. As a family day out, from a picnic to the play park and maze, there is something for all ages and the events are amazing. From the open air concert, to the seasonal events, I feel an overwhelming sense of patriotism and pride each and every time I visit, so when I heard we had a chance to spend the night – well, yes please! And not just spend the night, but spend the night at The Maiden’s Tower, actually within the moat on the Castle Island, basically sat in the lap of the main castle.
