key events top spot Deal Festival of Music and the Arts – The beautiful and historic surroundings of Deal, Sandwich and Dover will once again provide the backdrop for this annual music and arts festival from 27th June – 6th July. Timeball Tower Museum 25th Anniversary Concert and March – Marking 25 years since the bombing of the Deal barracks in 1989, this special concert, re-dedication service and march is to be held on 13th July by Her Majesty’s Royal Marines Band at the town's Memorial Bandstand. Deal, Walmer and Kingsdown Carnival and Regatta Week – This regatta dates back to 1826, when the Naval Dockyard closed and the locals wanted to raise the town’s spirits. This local event, held on 31st July, includes competitions such as the lorry pull and a raft race. White Cliffs Walking Festival – The White Cliffs' walks, held between 21st-27th August, will include something for everyone, whether you're an avid walker or looking for a leisurely stroll with the family. Deal Folk by the Sea – Previously known as Deal Maritime Folk Festival, visitors to this popular a nnual event will enjoy workshops, choirs, folk clubs, and even a smugglers’ concert across the weekend of 19-21st September 2014. Situated on Deal's historic seafront, the Timeball Tower is a unique fourfloor museum of time and maritime communications. Built in 1953, it was once used by the Coastal Blockade to pass messages in their fight against smugglers. The device, triggered by an electrical signal from Greenwich, would drop once a day at 1pm to enable the ships' navigation systems to be accurately set.
