Christie’s
exhibition with

When Painting
Collapses, You
Have Beautiful
Sculptures –
Christie is
continuing his
exploration of drawing. As primarily a sculptor, drawing was not a big part
of his work and it was only after enrolling on a drawing course he realised
its value.
Open Quarter returns and
is better than ever
FOLKESTONE’S CREATIVE QUARTER INVITES YOU
TO EXPLORE EVERYTHING IT HAS TO OFFER.
Explore all of Folkestone's Creative Quarter from Friday 20th – Sunday 22nd
June. Enjoy a myriad of open artists’ studios and flats and meet local
businesses at the Connecting Creatives event at Folkestone Quarterhouse.
Look out for plenty of family-friendly activities including art and craft workshops
and guided tours of Folkestone Artworks and Quarterhouse. There will be
lots of special offers and discounts at many of the lovely shops, restaurants
and bars as they join in the fun.
This exhibition will be accompanied by second exhibition in the ground floor
gallery curated by Christie entitled Line & Value Part 1.
The weekend begins with a new edition to this year’s event: Connecting
Creatives at Folkestone Quarterhouse – a chance for you to come and meet
the local creative businesses and entrepreneurs that are shaping Folkestone’s
economic future and making the Creative Quarter a vibrant place to live
and work. Then the rest of the weekend becomes a playground of Open
Studios, family-friendly workshops and delicious food and drink on offer.
There will be lots of opportunities to buy beautiful art and crafts directly
from the artists, as well as to experience wellbeing treatments and therapies.
Influenced by Robert Rauschenberg’s approach, Christie looks far beyond
the cannon of conventional artistic materials, using everyday objects like
steel rods, scaffolding, billiard balls, doormats, neon signs and even cars
to make works which are embedded with political, social and cultural
meaning and a healthy dash of humour.
Time and again Christie crosses the boundaries between conceptual art
and pop, Dada collage and minimalist finish, high art and popular culture,
sculpture and installation to produce work that is visually striking, gently
alluring and deceptively complex. www.updowngallery.co.uk
