KENT MUSIC APPOINTS
TOP ARTS MANAGER
Nancy Gillio-Terry, Kent Music
Kent Music has appointed
experienced arts manager Nancy
Gillio-Terry as head of
programme delivery, with
responsibility for organising
music education for thousands
of young people across the
county.
Specialising in music
outreach and
education, Nancy has a longstanding interest in the role music
education plays in children’s
development and learning, and
the ways in which the arts can
impact on environmental issues,
well-being and community cohesion.
Nancy is no stranger to Kent, having worked as area leader for
Sing Up Kent and Medway, where she led the development of a
programme of teacher training, learning resources, and an information
hub.
She has developed arts education projects and strategies for a
variety of music education organisations, including Glyndebourne Opera,
Youth Music, Sing Up, Creative Partnerships, Birmingham Opera
Company, Birmingham Contemporary Music Group, Ex Cathedra,
Birmingham City Council, and Arts Council England.
A keen amateur singer, Nancy sang with the City of Birmingham
Symphony Chorus for 14 years. She is a member of the Association
of Teachers of Singing and the British Voice Association, plays French
horn and guitar, and enjoys singing in pop bands.
Peter Bolton, chief executive of Kent Music, said: “We’re delighted
to have appointed someone with Nancy’s experience and drive, and
I am sure she will make a major contribution to music education in Kent.”

THE WISH APPEAL LAUNCHES WITH
KENT ROADSHOW
The Abbeyfield Kent Society’s new fundraising initiative, The Wish Appeal, has
officially launched at a series of roadshows across the county. Visiting each of
the society’s residential homes and extra care schemes in Kent, the charity
kicked off its new fundraising initiative back in April.
Joined by staff, trustees, volunteers, residents' relatives and members of
the community, the society’s chief executive, Leon Steer, introduced guests to
the scheme with a presentation and short video. After hearing about numerous
wishes that had already been granted,
staff and relatives were eager to find out
more, with many already working on
fundraising activities for the months ahead,
including sponsored walks, fetes and
more.
Leon said: “Regardless of age, most
of us have things we would like to achieve
and The Wish Appeal will aim to make
those things possible, whether it is a trip
to the seaside, a meal in their favourite restaurant, or something a little more
extravagant.
“However as we are a charity, our budget isn’t limitless, which is why we
need the support of our staff, relatives, volunteers and the wider community to
help us make these dreams come true.”

ACCOUNTANTS' PLEDGE TO CLIMB THREE PEAKS FOR KENT’S OLDEST CHARITY
IS HAILED 'INTREPID' BY RAN FIENNES
On 13th September this year, 14 team
members from Sidcup-based McBrides
Accountants will undertake the Three
Peaks Challenge. This national event
requires the team to climb Ben Nevis,
Scafell Pike and Snowdon back-to-back
in a 24-hour period, in an effort to raise
funds for The Royal School for Deaf
Children Margate – the oldest charity in
Kent.
The bid has elicited support from
the greatest living explorer of our time,
Sir Ranulph Fiennes, who said: "I wish
every success to the 14 intrepid
accountants who are climbing the three
peaks in 24 hours in support of The
Royal School for Deaf Children. I only
hope that they are better at climbing
than I am at accounting!”
Tanya Hamilton, partner at
McBrides Chartered Accountants, said
of the challenge: “As a team, we were
invigorated by Sir Ranulph Fiennes'
message, and we hope it will inspire
people to support us as we raise money
for a school which makes a difference
145
to so many pupils with complex special
needs”.
The team launched their fundraising
appeal for The Royal School for Deaf
Children Margate by using the rowing
machines in the school’s new gym to
row 21 miles in just over an hour – the
equivalent distance of rowing the
channel.
Aside from online donations, the
team will be asking people to guess the
number of steps team leader, Tanya
Hamilton, will take on her 3,000-metre
Three Peaks Challenge. The team will
also be asking work colleagues and
clients to guess the walkers legs from
a selection of photographs taken from
the knee down.
