DIESEL PARTICULATE FILTER Did you know, that as of March the MOT for diesel cars has changed? The DPF will now be checked as part of the cars’ MOT. What is a DPF? DPF stands for diesel particulate filter. The DPF is a filter inside the cars exhaust that collects the soot released by your car. Soot is harmful to the environment and is therefore not allowed to be released by exhausts. The filter converts the soot into ash which can be released into the atmosphere as it less harmful. DPFs have been used for over 20 years in diesel vehicles to ensure that they meet the European emission standards. So, how does that affect you? The DPF filter is NOW being checked as part of the car’s MOT. If the filter is absent from the car it will fail its MOT. Some garages and car dealers offer to remove a DPF which will now fail the MOT! If the filter is clogged up and unable to breathe, this will seriously affect performance and fuel consumption. To solve this issue your filter will need to be replaced at a cost of around £1500. This is where we’re here to help! How can Big Motoring World help?
