The Astor Community Theatre Trinity Theatre A multi-purpose arts centre, the Astor Community Theatre in Deal offers a unique, eclectic mix of music, theatre, literary events, art exhibitions, films and workshops for all ages and tastes. Originally built in 1906 for 'entertainment, meetings and receptions', the theatre was previously known as Stanhope Hall and later, The Winter Gardens. In 1944, having served as a WVS canteen during WWII, the theatre was awarded to the people of Deal for their courage. In recognition, the theatre was renamed The Astor Hall and continued to serve the people of this town for the next 60 years. It wasn't until 2009 that the theatre was rescued from later neglect and disuse and restored to the artistic and vibrant hub it is today. The main auditorium is capable of seating 720 people across three levels, with a more recent lower studio space that accommodates up to 120 seated patrons. The theatre aims to engage the local community by allowing them to use the space for a variety of performance styles, a dynamic programme of theatre and valued community projects. The Blake Gallery and community square at the front of The Woodville also allow for extended cultural events throughout the calendar year. Now a beautiful 960-seat venue, the theatre plays host to top names in live music, drama, comedy and dance, as well as offering an array of children's shows, films and regular specialism evenings too. Much like The Brook Theatre, this Kent-based arts hub pioneers local talent with productions for the entire community.
