NEWS SHEDDING LIGHT ON CANTERBURY CATHEDRAL’S STAINED GLASS THOUSANDS OF FREE KENT BIG WEEKEND TICKETS UP FOR GRABS A new book targeted at young people is shedding fresh light on Canterbury’s world-renowned stained glass windows. Paintings in Light has been written and designed by Canterbury-based children’s educational author Martyn Barr, and published in association with Canterbury Cathedral. Castles, cathedrals, steam trains and river tours are among the many top visitor attractions and experiences offering thousands of free tickets for local residents to enjoy Kent's Big Weekend 2014. Held over 29th-30th March, the anticipated event will also mark the start of English Tourism Week. The beautifully illustrated, 56-page guide offers a fascinating insight into the history of stained glass and the stunning windows of Canterbury Cathedral. Paintings in Light includes chapters on the history of glass, how stained glass windows are made, the different types of windows in the Cathedral and the amazing stories they each tell. The book also highlights the work of Canterbury Cathedral’s Stained Glass Window Studio, which oversees the repair and preservation of the windows.
