Access to daylight also has an effect on our perception of colour and the flow of Chi. Maximise what daylight you have by keeping windows clean and clear. Consider daylight simulating bulbs for when the sun goes down or if your home office has no natural light source. Styles Just like colours, design styles can portray different energy characteristics and affect the personality of your home office. For example: • Glass and chrome provide focus and attention to detail. • Solid woods are practical and down to earth, as are square shapes and sharp corners. • Rounded shapes allow the Chi to flow throughout the room and so your thoughts will also flow. • A mixture of styles will provide a mix of energies and therefore confuse your thought processes. Unless your home office is large enough to have designated areas for different types of work, it is best to stick to one style throughout the room. Clutter Clutter has a number of negatives: it’s likely that things will get mislaid or forgotten, it chokes up your office and detracts you from your objectives, it attracts dust and it stops Chi from flowing, keeping it stagnant. If your room’s Chi is stagnant, your energy will become stagnant. Altogether clutter can drain the life out of your finances, career or business. Here are some tips to help you stay clutter free: • Be realistic about how much storage you need and keep it all in one area of the room. • Choose a storage system that can be closed: everything on view becomes distracting. • Once you have a storage system, use it. • Empty rubbish bins and shred unwanted documents regularly. • If you need a lot of storage space use a separate area, such as a garage or loft, for documents you don’t need frequently.
