EDUCATION IN ASSOCIATION WITH Sydenham High: EDUCATION THAT GOES BEYOND GREAT RESULTS For the last 125 years, Sydenham High School GDST has been educating girls aged 4 to 18 from across London, Kent and the South East to outstandingly high standards. That was confirmed in August when, for the second consecutive year, the school achieved an increase in the number of students gaining top grades at A Level, along with its consistent 100 per cent pass rate thus bucking the trend nationally. 78% of Sydenham High girls achieved A*/B grades, versus 72% in 2012, with over a third securing A*/A in their subjects. “Our girls have once again achieved great results and we are very proud of them. They have had the determination to succeed and will surely continue to further their success in their chosen career paths. “We’re equally proud of our award-winning choir, our musicians, our theatrical productions, our creativity in art and design and our excellent sport, including a new elite athlete support programme from September 2013.” In addition, the school’s most recent inspection report judged Sydenham High to be outstanding for providing a ?rst-class education that allows pupils to be intellectually ful?lled whilst offering lively, stimulating enrichment beyond the classroom. That enrichment is embedded in school life because the school believes in educating and not just examining girls. With small class sizes and individual attention, education at Sydenham High focuses on helping each student to aspire with realism and achieve her personal best in and beyond the classroom. It may be scuba diving or being part of the hockey team; organising a fundraiser or being in the chess club; producing a school show or leading a Duke of Edinburgh expedition in Morocco. “What’s important is that pupils are not afraid to accept a challenge, have the courage to try new things and the self-belief to see them through,” says Mrs Pullen. “These are life skills that are vital to deal con?dently with an everchanging world.” Sydenham High’s main open days are held on 21 September (Junior School) and 28 September (Senior School) but there are also open mornings during October and November as well as bookable taster mornings for both Reception and the Senior School. www.sydenhamhighschool.gdst.net 44 www.insidekentmagazine.co.uk
