NEWS SHEPHERD NEAME SIGNS THREE-YEAR DEAL WITH CANTERBURY CITY FC Kent brewer Shepherd Neame has signed a three-year sponsorship deal with local football club Canterbury City FC, who play in the premier division of the Southern Counties East Football League. The deal will see Shepherd Neame’s logo appear on Canterbury City’s first team kit as they become the club’s ‘First Team Partner’. City chairman Tim Clark said, “It is fantastic for the club to have a well-known and locally-respected company such as Shepherd Neame supporting us. “We are grateful to Shepherd Neame for their three-year commitment, particularly as we now embark on considering alternative locations for a home ground. We are now playing FA Cup football again for the first time in 15 years so this is an exciting time at the club.” Giles Hilton, Shepherd Neame’s head of free on sales, said, “Shepherd Neame has a proud record of supporting a variety of sports from grassroots to county level. We wish the players and supporters of Canterbury City FC every success in the forthcoming season and look forward to a fruitful relationship over the next three years.” FATHER AND SON OPEN THE CORNER HOUSE IN MINSTER Mathew Sworder, a 27-year-old marketing graduate who gave up a lucrative career in insurance to retrain as a chef, has opened his first restaurant, The Corner Shop, in Minster, Kent. Formerly Morton’s Fork restaurant, owned by Mathew’s father, David Sworder, is the very place where Mathew was born in 1986. Set in the historic village of Minster in Kent on the Isle of Thanet, The Corner House has two rooms to accommodate overnight guests. The double and twin rooms cost £80 a night including a continental breakfast, with the option to upgrade to a full English for £5. Father David, who ran Morton’s Fork here for 15 years, will return to run the front of house. “The concept is to serve London-inspired modern British dishes in relaxed surroundings, where the menus change frequently with the seasonal availability of fresh, local produce,” said Matt. The Corner House is open for breakfast, coffee, light snacks, lunch and dinner. www.thecornerhouseminster.co.uk 16 www.insidekentmagazine.co.uk
