Land your seaplane or pull up in your boat at the Nest on Lake Weir, Ocklawaha, Florida. This 5,000 acres freshwater lake, just outside of Ocala is a spectacular playground. I'm sitting on the porch of my cottage this morning drinking fresh coffee and enjoying the view. What a beautiful morning at this gorgeous place. There are majestic oak and magnolia trees all around and a view of Lake Weir that makes you feel like you are at the beach because it has an endless view of the lake and a sandy beach. One of the other guests just walked by and said “Don't you just love this place”. That was just what I was feeling.

Looking at the lake tempts you to jump in for a refreshing swim from the beach area or dock, or take out one of the two pontoon boats for the day and enjoy the experience. This popular destination offers swimming, kayaking, boating, water skiing, fishing and sailing. The shoreline is surrounded by private homes and Carney Island County Park. Gator Joe’s and Eaton’s Beach Sandbar & Grill offer delicious food, both waterfront restaurants around the lake where you can pull up your boat or car.

The guest rooms scream luxury on the inside and the grounds have a cottage feel on the outside. There are eleven different guest

cottages to choose from at this gated inn, which sits on two lush acres with 160 feet of white sandy beach leading to the lake. In the center of the grounds is plenty of space to sit with friends, family or just yourself. The fire pit and grilling area is down near the lake’s sandy beach, which makes for an inviting evening of stargazing or stunning sunsets. This destination offers both adventurous activities and peaceful surroundings. I keep thinking my daughter and her husband would love to vacation here with their 7 & 9 year old daughters. They'd bring their jet skies and kayaks for the kids. Kayaks are complimentary to guests of the inn and the pontoon boats may be rented at the Inn.
