Background & Vision Discovery Park spans 220 acres and is located in Sandwich , Kent . It is one of the largest research and development facilities in Europe .
The site was once the European headquarters for Pfizer ’ s global research , development , and manufacturing capability and over the last five decades , iconic drugs such as Viagra , Diflucan and Cardura were discovered and developed there .
The vision , since the sale of the site by Pfizer in 2012 , has been to create a sustainable , mixed-use community centred on its established world-class science and technology offering . Today , the park is home to a host of international companies and organisations of all sizes , including : Pfizer , Mylan , Quvium and Genea , Algaecytes , Augean , Centauri Therapeutics and Venomtech .
Enterprise Zone Status The park benefits from Enterprise Zone status and government funded tax reliefs for science companies , so it has strong incentives to attract global brands .
In 2014 , Discovery Park Enterprise Zone in East Kent was awarded more than £ 6million to transform buildings and create labs .
Discovery Park is investing the grant in the refurbishment , redesign , and fitting out of buildings on-site and is expected to create 3,000 jobs by the end of 2017 .

Thanet District Council The Isle of Thanet is the major part of the Thanet District and is separated from the mainland . The council serves the towns of Margate , Broadstairs and Ramsgate .
