West of Scotland Science Park
Introduction The West of Scotland Science Park is a joint initiative between Scottish Enterprise and the Universities of Glasgow and Strathclyde .
Opened in 1983 , the Park provides a location for the development of businesses focusing on emerging and future technologies .
The Science Park is home to a wide range of companies operating across all areas of the life sciences and technology sectors including ultrasonics , pharmaceuticals , mobile computing , cleanrooms , satellites , laser systems , telecommunications , pre-clinical drug discovery and optolectronics .
The facility is noted for the atmosphere of collaboration and interaction which exists between its tenants and with its partner universities .
Premises Located on a 60 acre site , 3 miles north-west of Glasgow City Centre , the facility is divided into two campuses : Kelvin Campus and Todd Campus .
Kelvin Campus
Kelvin Campus consists of 9 pavilions including the recently completed 30,000 square foot Venture Building ( www . venturebuilding . co . uk ) which marks the next phase in the life-cycle of Kelvin Campus . Plans are already under way to further develop the Campus through additional intervention .
Todd Campus
The existing 14 buildings are predominantly single user-occupied by companies operating within the fields of biotechnology , optoelectronics and software development .
Both Todd Campus and Kelvin Campus have been extensively landscaped and provide an excellent working environment .
The Park also benefits from its proximity to a number of leading research facilities . These include the Beatson Oncology Centre , one of Europe ’ s top cancer hospitals , and the new Translational Research Centre which is currently under construction and will be the final element in the Glasgow Centre for Cancer Research .
The adjacent Glasgow University Garscube campus also houses the Weipers Centre for Equine Welfare , the Small Animal Hospital and the School of Veterinary Medicine and is the location for the proposed Medical Research Council Centre for Virus Research .
