Over the next few days, Zach showed me more of Cabo. With my
Canon in hand, we explored various streets, parts of the city, and
marina, slowing down to admire the art, people, and culture. We found
a collective of high end resorts that were stunning. Nestled next to
the Sea of Cortez, these resorts had incredible views. The outside
pool areas had beautiful caves and wading areas, lined with bars and
bartenders slinging booze. As I looked over the balcony onto the sand
and sea, I saw a group of Mexican cowboys riding horses.
One of my missions during this trip was to learn more about the tattoo
culture. After a little research and asking around, I had a list of tattoo
shops I wanted to visit. With beer in one hand and my camera in the
other, we found the first shop on our list - Ritual Tattoos. It was clean
and pleasant inside, with cool art and accessories, all with Mexican
flair. With a game plan, we set out to tackle more of the tattoo shops
on my list the next morning. But first, breakfast. We decided on none
other than the world famous Cabo Wabo, where Happy Hour starts at
10 a.m.. 2 for 1 margaritas, beer, guacamole, tacos, and live music...
Life is good. A handsome, heavily tattooed bartender caught my eye. I
asked him who his artist was and if I could take a few portraits of him.
I also asked to meet with the manager and was given Jorge Viaña’s
card, one of the owners along with Sammy Hagar. Jorge wasn’t there
that day but when I came back the next day to meet with him, I was
treated with kindness and incredible hospitality, a recurring theme
throughout all of Cabo.
