UNWRITTEN LAW Words: Candies Deezy Liu Photography: Sean Hartgrove “What’s wrong with you’re kickin’ it when you’re bored and lit?” It was a question I often found myself asking as I had the Unwritten Law CD on repeat during my days of high school and teenage rebellion. With another one of their major hit songs, “Seein’ Red” burned into my memory of recalling the good ol’ days, every time I hear this song, I’m still reminded of where I came from. Their music played a pivotal role in getting me through the tough times and reminding me of the good times. It was an era of alternative rock that has shaped my love for music to this day. Formed in the early ‘90s in a city in San Diego named Poway, Unwritten Law rapidly established themselves in the California music scene and continued to take the 2000s by storm. With their defined rock sound and intense punk rock energy, the band was a major part of the evolution of alternative rock during that time. As they toured alongside bands such as Blink 182, Sum 41, and The Used, they created a revolution in the genre of skate punk. After releasing seven studio albums, completing several international tours, performing at the Vans Warped Tour, experiencing lineup changes, and more, Unwritten Law continues to dominate the live rock music scene with sold out shows and no signs of stopping. As they continue to garner new fans with their new music, Unwritten Law has successfully maintained a loyal following since their early days.
