Subsuming her ego and facilitating concord among filming constituents
comes naturally to Valde-Hansen. Now with fifty-plus credits as a cinematographer, she has more agency in the direction of her career, but she still
brings that spirit of collaboration to every project.
And it informs her personal life, too, with her husband and daughter. “Our
daughter has absolutely changed our lives,” she says. “And we wanted to
honor that. My husband and I had talked for years of getting tattoos together,
but we never could decide on anything important enough. Mazzie’s birth
changed that.”
