The Association of Professional Piercers (APP) hosted their twentieth annual conference and exposition on June 7th through the 12th at Bally’s in Las Vegas. The APP is
an international non-profit organization based in California, dedicated to educating and
supporting vital health and safety information regarding body piercings to piercers, health
care professionals, legislators, as well as the general public. In attendance were industry
leaders - piercers and jewelry companies alike. The jewelry expo presented opportunities
for attendees to buy new products and jewelry, in addition to seeing the latest innovations.
Companies such as Industrial Strength Body Jewelry, Anatometal, Leroi, Tawapa, Maya
Jewelry, H2Ocean, and many more were there showing their newest products. In addition
to the appearance of legendary figures within the community and bejeweled vendors,
various seminars, classes, and workshops were held to facilitate educational advancement
on various topics.
With approximately 1,100 attendees this year, the APP conference and expo grew approximately eight percent in attendance over last year. Not only does the association and
event commemorate experienced and industry pioneers, there are also a few recipients of
scholarships from the organization that foster a learning field for new and up and coming
piercers. As always, the yearly conference is a celebration of the piercing and body modification community.
Our piercing editor, Sean Dowdell interviewed a few of the key veterans for more insight
on the Association of Professional Piercers conference and organization, as well as the
piercing industry as a whole.
