I was young and death was scary.

So I cried because my Grampa was sad.

Because my mother was sad.

But I was not, I was just frightened

We were never close, after all, until now.

The other night my Grampa said you would like my poems.

I read your words, in the book you meant to publish worldwide,

the pages are now falling out and yellowed.

Sad poems about a man sitting in a chair.

They make my mother cry when she reads them.

You were her favorite uncle,

Your barbed wire aura kept all those

who did not matter,

out.

But your clever loved ones could find a way through.

We were never close until you passed down

the ability to think in stanzas and write my heavy heart out.

Until all weight is gone.

We were never close until I realized your inky blood runs

through me.

We were never close.

But I am changing that, with every new way I find

to describe the stars.

With every new way I find to say

I love someone.

Every time I open my eyes more,

I get to know you better.
