In 2015-16, 59 percent of elementary schools
excelled in terms of instructional minutes;
they provided 120 minutes or more of weekly
arts instruction. An additional 18 percent
offered between 90 and 119 minutes, which is
were categorized as Emerging, which means
that students in these schools received fewer
than 45 minutes of arts instruction per week.
As shown in the graphic below, over the four
years of data collection, the percentage of
the requirement to be categorized as Strong
in instructional minutes. Schools that offered
between 45 and 89 minutes of arts instruction
are categorized as Developing; 19 percent of
elementary schools fell into this group. The
remaining five percent of elementary schools
elementary schools meeting the 120 minute
requirement has increased considerably, with
a seven percentage point increase in 2013-14
and an 11 percentage point increase in 201415. The increase this year was more modest.
