Dear Readers,
We are delighted to be involved in the re-launching of the Indiana State Reading Association’s journal. We are planning on producing two issues a year: fall and spring.
In this issue, Shannon Anderson’s poem “I want to be a teacher,” reminds us of some of the reasons many of us became teachers. Tara Kingsley’s article, “Voice Threads for Higher Order Thinking Skills“ provides insightful information regarding using this new technology in the classroom. Tammi Davis’ article “But I Am “Teaching”: An Experienced Teacher Embraces Professional Courage”, serves as a reminder for teachers for focusing on the students in the midst of all the obstacles teachers face today. “From Apathetic to Avid” by Anita Manwell describes ways to motivate African-American male readers.
We are encouraging teachers and professors to submit manuscripts that describe their teaching practices in literacy instruction. Please refer to the call for manuscripts that describe the guidelines for submissions on page 6. The next deadline for submission is February 1, 2016.
Our readers will benefit from the professional development provided in this issue of the ISRA journal. We look forward to providing more professional development to you in the next issue. Please feel free to contact us to provide us with feedback for future issues.
