TIM MURPHY RECEIVES EXCEPTIONAL LEGISLATOR AWARD

The Schizophrenia & Related Disorders Alliance of America ( SARDAA ) presented Congressman Tim Murphy with its very first Exceptional Legislator Award for his efforts in the mental health field , as well as his landmark crisis mental health reform bill , the Helping Families in Mental Health Crisis Act , which was signed into law in December .
“ I ’ m honored and humbled to receive this award ,” said Congressman Murphy , whose legislation provides real treatment to those suffering from serious mental illnesses like schizophrenia . “ It ’ s groups like SARDAA who truly make a difference for families in mental health crisis , providing so much help , and so much hope , for those living with brain disorders like schizophrenia and bipolar disorder . I am so grateful for their efforts and look forward to continue working with them to get real treatment to those most in need .”
While other organizations engage in support and advocacy services , SARDAA focuses specifically on schizophreniarelated disorders . Inspired by the vision that every person with schizophrenia or a related disorder achieves recovery , SARDAA promotes improvement in the lives of those individuals and their families by providing
support , hope and awareness so that early diagnosis , treatment and community services increase recovery .
Linda Stalters , the founder and executive director of SARDAA , who is also a retired Advanced Practice Nurse Psychotherapist , added , “ This is the only Exceptional Legislator Award that SARDAA has presented and we proudly and enthusiastically honor Congressman Tim Murphy for his unwavering and ongoing commitment to improve the lives of those affected by schizophrenia-related brain illnesses through the legislative process .”
Murphy is the only practicing psychologist in elected federal government and has championed mental health reform in Congress .
THREE RIVERS QUILTERS TO HOST ANNUAL QUILT SHOW
The Three Rivers Quilters Guild will present the 2017 Quilt Show April 27-29 at a new location , the Meadows Race Track and Casino Special Event Center , 210 Racetrack Road , Washington . This colorful show will feature over 100 quilts created by fabric artists from far and wide . Quilts will range from miniatures to bed size , done in many different techniques . In addition , there will be ongoing quilting demonstrations , a sewing-related “ Granny ’ s Attic ” and many vendors with quilt-related items . This venue is in the heart of a rich entertainment area that offers something for everyone . In addition to the
Meadows Racetrack and Casino , with racing , gambling , bowling , restaurants and much more , there is shopping , including outlet shopping , the Trolley Museum , motels and restaurants .
The show will run April 27 from 10 a . m . to 5 p . m .; Apr . 28 from 10 a . m . to 7:30 p . m .; and Apr . 29 from 9:30 a . m . to 4 p . m . Cost is $ 10 per person , with special $ 5 admission after 3 p . m . on Friday .
This year ’ s theme is “ Two Color Quilts .” The juried and judged show is open to all quiltmakers . Ribbons and cash prizes will be awarded . Entries should be submitted by March 21 . The special exhibit is “ The Food Quilt ,” which was created to bring awareness to the plight of those in need of food assistance in our area . This quilt will be donated to the Greater Washington County Food Bank to be used as a fundraiser . ■
