MT . LEBANON JUNIOR WOMEN ’ S CLUB HOLDS 2017 GALA EVENT , “ REACH FOR THE STARS ,” BENEFITING STRONG WOMEN , STRONG GIRLS
Mt . Lebanon Junior Women ’ s Club ( MLJWC ) held its 20th annual gala benefiting the club ’ s major grant beneficiary , Strong Women , Strong Girls ( SWSG ), at the Charles J . Dougherty Ballroom ( Duquesne University ). It was a dazzling night with silent auctions , luxury basket raffles , entertainment and live music . Guests were also treated to hors d ’ oeuvres and a three‐hour premium bar .
“ Not only is our annual gala always a fantastic evening , this year more than ever I could not wait to stand behind our beneficiary , Strong Women , Strong Girls . We have the opportunity to help ignite change by focusing on those who are so very important but often overlooked : young girls in struggling communities . Giving those girls confidence , leadership skills , and strong mentors makes them game-changers in their families , schools and communities . It tells them how important we know they are , and invests in the future of these communities ,” said Tess Carter , President , MLJWC .
“ Strong Women , Strong Girls is delighted to partner with such a well-aligned organization such as the MLJWC . Their support is instrumental in strengthening and expanding the reach of after-school mentoring to girls in our region . MLJWC ’ s commitment to SWSG truly showcases the power women have when they invest in their communities through the gift of service ,” said Sabrina Saunders , Executive Director of SWSG .
The Mt . Lebanon Junior Women ’ s Club was founded in 1968 by 10 civic-minded women .
The club ’ s goal is to continue their legacy of giving back to the community through civic , philanthropic and social activities . It focuses on supporting organizations that improve the lives of women and children . MLJWC is a dynamic group of women accomplished in career , family and community involvement and includes about 80 members . Membership is open to women living in Mt . Lebanon and surrounding communities whose interests are consistent with the purpose of the organization .
REGISTRATION IS NOW OPEN FOR THE CLEAN WATER ACADEMY : ALCOSAN ’ S SUMMER STEM PROGRAM FOR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS BEGINS JULY 17
Ignore the winter weather and start thinking about summer . Registration is now open for the Allegheny County Sanitary Authority ’ s Clean Water Academy .
The week-long day camp is designed for students in grades 9 and 10 . This enrichment program exposes students to science , technology , engineering and math content relating to wastewater treatment . Topics include engineering , chemistry , microbiology and technology .
The camp will be held from 9 a . m . to 3 p . m ., Monday through Friday , July 17 through July 21 . The program is free and most of the activities will be held at ALCOSAN ’ s North Side plant .
