• Obstacle Course
• Bike helmet inspections
• Bicycle inspections
• Teaching the rules of the road

WELCOME TO OUR NEWEST POLICE OFFICERS !

Over the past year and a half , the Shaler Township Police Department has hired 3 new officers to replace those who have retired . Please join us in welcoming Officers John McBurney , Dennis Gapsky , and Kenneth Wise .
John McBurney retired from the Pittsburgh Police Department with over 20 years ’ experience . His last 15 years were with the Detective Division in Narcotics , and Nuisance Bar Task Force . He also had temporary assignments in Night Felony , Homicide , and Auto Squad . John served our Country in the United States Navy and the Pennsylvania Army National Guard . As he moves back into the role as patrolman , he is accepting new challenges and has worked very diligently with our traffic enforcement program . John is married and has three daughters . He enjoys living in the close-knit community of Shaler Township and the opportunities for his children in the Shaler Area School District .
Dennis Gapsky has over three year ’ s full-time experience with the Millvale Police Department , after working part-time with Ohio Township and West View Police Department ’ s . Dennis is a 2008 graduate of Shaler Area High School and a 2012 graduate from LaRoche College . Dennis was born and raised in Shaler Township and has many years of experience in the Fire and EMS service . Dennis is a CPR and First Aid Instructor and assists in training our officers . Dennis is also very active with traffic enforcement and assists in the instruction of school related programs with our School Resource Officer . Dennis is very proud to be working in the community where he and his many family members have grown up .
Kenneth Wise , our newest Police Officer , has worked for the University of Pittsburgh Police Department for over 3 years and is a member of their Motorcycle Unit and their SWAT Team . He also has part-time experience with Franklin Park , Ohio Township and Indiana Township Police Departments . He graduated from Shaler Area High School in 2004 and graduated from California University of Pennsylvania in 2008 . Ken was a student athlete in both high school and college in football and rugby . Ken is newly married and anxious to move back into his hometown of Shaler Township . As a young boy , Ken ’ s career aspiration was to be a member of the Shaler Township Police Department .

CONGRATULATIONS !

Sgt . Regis Smith retired after almost 27 years and Officer Kevin Kerin retired after 31 years with the Shaler Township Police Department . Good luck on your retirement . haler
