ROSS TOWNSHIP NEWS
Rain barrels are a great way to conserve water , to supply nonchlorinated water for gardening , and to keep excess water out of the stormwater system , thus alleviating some of the stormwater issues plaguing the region . Workshop attendees will learn about the problems associated with stormwater runoff and ways to conserve and protect water resources .
Participants will receive a pre-made FreeGarden RAIN 55-gallon rain barrel . Designed with the homeowner / gardener in mind , it is affordable , attractive , and easy to install . A rain barrel is a system that connects to your downspout to collect and store rain water from your roof that would otherwise be lost to runoff and diverted to storm drains , streams , and rivers .
Workshop participants will learn how to harvest rainwater from their roofs , store it , and use it in the landscape . They also learn how to reduce their contribution to combined sewer overflow ( CSO ), flooding , and polluted urban runoff by learning how to practice watershed protection and conservation in their own backyards . It ’ s easier than you think !
