In the fall of 2013, Paul
Rowan, Graphic Design
alumnus and co-founder
of the global houseware
design company Umbra,
launched a challenge
for our Graphic Design
students. The task at hand
was to create a graphic
pattern to apply to a simple
trash can. The goal
was to create an original
series of houseware
products that could be
displayed at the Toronto
Interior Design Show in
January 2014.
The award-winning
results speak for
themselves. This
partnership provided
students with tremendous public exposure,
industry contacts and
possible future licensing
agree-ments. Umbra
gained new ideas and
is currently looking into
fabrication possibilities
of the winning designs.
