Thinking Money Programs
We will be Thinking Money in April ! Outlined below are a few of the financially-based programs and events that will be featured . Thinking Money was developed by the American Library Association Public Programs Office in collaboration with FINRA Investor Education Foundation .
Passport to Financial Literacy
Mar . 28 through May 4
Teens and tweens - while the Thinking Money Exhibition is on display in the library , pick up a passport and earn stamps through attending programs and other special events at the library . Turn in your passport at the end of the exhibition for a chance to win prizes ! See a Youth Services Librarian for more information on obtaining a passport and earn stamps for prizes .
Thinking Money Kick-off and Financial Fair
All Ages Saturday , Apr . 1 11 a . m . to 2 p . m .
Celebrate the opening of our 6 week Thinking Money Exhibition and pick up some tips about money ! Several organizations will be on hand to provide resources to make smart financial choices that will help to prepare us for whatever the future brings . This event will also kick-off our “ passport to financial literacy ” series geared to youth . Pick up a passport , and participate in events for an opportunity to win prizes !
Youth Financial Education Workshop
Ages 13 and up ( young adults welcome ) Thursdays , Apr . 6 , 13 , 20 and 27 7 to 8 p . m .
This free workshop consists of four one hour sessions , each devoted to different aspects of financial empowerment . Students will receive a folder filled with valuable information , handouts and activities that will be useful long after the workshops are completed . Topics discussed include wants vs . needs , spending plans and budgeting , banking and financial institutions , credit and fraud prevention . Presented by NeighborWorks Western Pennsylvania .
Achieving Financial Excellence
Adults Saturday , Apr . 22 10 a . m . to noon
At this free NeighborWorks Western Pennsylvania financial education workshop , learn about money topics including budgeting , financial goal setting , saving , credit and anti-predatory lending . Discover what to consider when developing a budget , the importance of saving and different savings vehicles , how credit is evaluated and the dangers of predatory lending practices .
Junior Jumpstarts
Grades 9 through12 and parents Tuesday , Apr . 11 6:30 to 8 p . m .
Get a jumpstart on college financial aid . Beginning with the 2017 - 2018 school year , the Free Application for Federal Student Aid ( FAFSA ) will be submitted earlier in the school year . This program will inform high school students and their parents about these changes in applying for college financial aid . Presented by Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency ( PHEAA ), one of the nation ' s leading student aid organizations .
Financial Fraud Bingo
Adults Tuesday , Apr . 25 1 to 2 p . m .
Learn while you earn – bingo prizes , that is . AARP presenter Eileen Mazza will teach what to look out for and who to call with questions . A 30 minute presentation will focus on how to avoid fraud , identity theft , scams and overcharging to become a more knowledgeable consumer . The investment fraud message is reinforced in the final 30 minutes through a series of bingo games where everyone tries to answer questions .
