RECYCLING BASICS

PROGRAM EXPENSES

Within the chart of accounts promulgated by the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development , municipalities are encouraged to group program expenses into one ( 1 ) of four ( 4 ) categories . These program categories are General Government , Protection to Person and Property , Public Works , and Culture & Recreation . In addition to these four ( 4 ) program areas , the budget includes expenses related to debt service and insurance and employee benefits . Total budgeted expenses for 2017 are $ 23,191,475 .
In 2017 , expenses associated with Protection to Persons and Property account for $ 6,753,041 or 29 % of all expenses . Programs contained in the Public Safety category include Police Services , Fire Services , Planning , Emergency Medical Services , Animal Control , and Zoning Building Inspection .
Public Works expenses in 2017 are estimated to be $ 6,583,270 or 28 % of total expenses . A significant portion of this amount is associated with capital improvements including the resurfacing of roadways and the rehabilitation of storm sewers .
Programs included under the category of Culture and Recreation , are the Peters Township Library , Parks & Recreation , and Peters Township Community Television . In 2017 , expenses for Culture and Recreation are estimated to be $ 4,106,945 or 18 % of the expenses .
The 2017 Budget contains an ambitious capital improvement plan . Expenditures for capital projects accounts total $ 6,253,544 and account for 28 % of all expenditures . One ( 1 ) project of particular note is the master plan for Peters Hill Park . Peters Hill Park is a proposed 90 acre park proposed on the site of the former Rolling Hills Country Club . This site was acquired by the Township in 2016 .
RECYCLING BASICS
Recyclables are picked up every week on the same day as your garbage collection . All recyclables , regardless of type , can be mixed into your Township issued recycling container . Before being placed in the recycling bin , all food containers should be rinsed and lids should be removed . If your bin becomes damaged or lost , please contact the Peters Township Municipal Building at 724.941.4180 .

ELECTRONIC RECYCLING
Televisions , Computers and other electronic devices WILL NOT be taken curbside by Waste Management , per state law . Televisions and Computers must be recycled at our Public Works Facility .
When Can I Recycle My Electronics ? Mondays , Wednesdays and Fridays from Noon to 3 p . m . DO NOT drop off items at the gate or on other days / times . Items only are accepted during the designated hours .
Where is the Public Works Building located ? The Public Works Department offices are located at 750 Bebout Road , Venetia , PA 15367 . Enter the Bebout Road entrance to Peterswood Park and make an immediate right .
What does it cost to recycle items ? Nothing ! This program is offered free of charge to residents . We want these electronics to be recycled properly in Peters Township .
What items can I recycle ? Televisions , Computers , Monitors , Printers , Keyboards , Modems , Routers , Scanners , Answering Machines , Stereos , CD Players and Recorders are the only items that will be taken . NO appliances will be accepted . NO microwaves , stoves , refrigerators , dishwashers , washers , dryers , air conditioners , dehumidifiers or humidifiers .
Do I have to be a Peters Township resident to recycle items ? Yes , this program is offered free of charge just for Peters Township residents . You may be asked to show ID proving your residency .
Do I have to recycle my old television / computer ? Can I leave them curbside instead ? Electronics such as Televisions and Computers are NOT taken through curbside garbage or curbside recycling collection , according to state law . Waste Management will NOT take these items . These items must be recycled at state approved facilities . Our Public Works Facility is a state approved facility that works with an electronic recycling company .
