Sergeant Collins
At the Jan . 2 Peters Township Council meeting , Sergeant Matthew Collins was awarded a Medal of Valor for his heroic actions in responding to the recent shooting incident in Canonsburg . The award was presented by Chief Grimes , Captain Maloni and Captain Ford . Many members of the Peters Township Police Department were present in support of Sergeant Collins .
Champion Firefighters
Congratulations to Firefighter Brittany Hoffman and Assistant Fire Chief Bill Gaughan for their medal winning runs at the Combat Challenge World Championships in Montgomery , Alabama . They competed with over 450 firefighters from 12 countries and 20 states . Hoffman earned a Bronze medal in the female tandem event , and a gold medal with the female relay team . The female relay team missed the setting of a new world record by seconds . Gaughan earned a Silver medal with the men ’ s over 60 relay team . They were the only firefighters from Pennsylvania to qualify for the World event .
