April! Outlined below are a few of the
financially-based programs and events
that will be featured. Thinking Money
was developed by the American Library
Association Public Programs Office
in collaboration with FINRA Investor
Education Foundation.
Passport to Financial Literacy
For Youth
April 1 through 30
While the Thinking Money Exhibition
is on display, pick up a passport and earn
stamps through attending programs
and other special events. Turn in your
passport at the end of the exhibition
for a chance to win prizes! See a Youth
Services Librarian for more information on
obtaining a passport and earning stamps
for prizes.
JA More Than Money
Grades 3 through 5
Mondays, April 3, 10, 24, May 1 and 8
4 to 4:45 p.m.
Developed by Junior Achievement,
More Than Money enables students to
recognize the significance of sound
money management practices in making
informed decisions in business and in
life. Through interactive games and
role-playing scenarios, students learn to
manage a personal bank account, identify
interests and skills that could lead to
future careers and business opportunities,
explore the process for starting and
operating their own business and the
importance of ethical business practices.
Youth Financial Education
Workshop
Ages 13 and up (young adults welcome)
Thursdays, April 6, 13, 20 and 27
7 to 8 p.m.
This free workshop consists of
four one hour sessions, each devoted
to different aspects of financial
empowerment. Students will receive a
folder filled with valuable information,
handouts and activities that will be useful
long after the workshops are completed.
Topics discussed include wants vs. needs,
spending plans and budgeting, banking
and financial institutions, credit and fraud
prevention. Presented by NeighborWorks
Western Pennsylvania.

Junior Jumpstarts
Grades 9 through 12 and Parents
Tuesday, April 11
6:30 to 8 p.m.
Get a jumpstart on college financial
aid. Beginning with the 2017 - 2018 school
year, the Free Application for Federal
Student Aid (FAFSA) will be submitted
earlier in the school year. This program
will inform high school students and their
parents about these changes in applying
for college financial aid. Presented by
Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance
Agency (PHEAA); one of the nation's
leading student aid organizations.
Coupon Club Open House
Tuesday, April 18
6 to 8 p.m.
The Coupon Club meets the first and
third Tuesday of each month and is free
and open to the public. Come to this
special Thinking Money edition of the club
to learn about ways you can save money
every day.
Achieving Financial Excellence
For Adults
Saturday, April 22
10 a.m. to noon
At this free NeighborWorks Western
Pennsylvania financial education
workshop learn about money topics
including budgeting, financial goal
setting, saving, credit and anti-predatory
lending. Discover what to consider when
developing a budget, the importance of
saving and different savings vehicles, how
credit is evaluated and the dangers of
predatory lending practices.
Puzzle Exchange
Drop off: Wednesday, April 19, 1 to 3 p.m.
OR 6 to 8 p.m.
Pick up: Saturday, April 22, 1 to 3 p.m.
Puzzled with what to do with your old
puzzles? We can help you and the planet!
Here’s how:
Bring your adult puzzle (limit 5) to
the library in its original box, in good
condition AND with all of its pieces to the
library Multipurpose Room on April 19.
You will receive a Trading Day Ticket for
each puzzle your drop-off to redeem for a
different puzzle to be selected on April 22,
Earth Day.
*Please also wrap a rubber band around
each puzzle box to keep contents secure.
Financial Fraud Bingo
For Adults
Tuesday, April 25
1 to 2 p.m.
Learn while you earn – bingo
prizes that is. AARP presenter Eileen
Mazza will teach you what to look out
for and who to call with questions. A
30-minute presentation will focus on
how to avoid fraud, identify theft, scams
and overcharging to become a more
knowledgeable consumer.
Money for College
Adults of School Age Children

10 to 11 a.m.
Positioning your student to be a prime
candidate for scholarship money for
college can start as early as fourth grade!
In this presentation, Rebecca Bowman
will show parents how to take advantage
of opportunities to “find” money. She’ll
look at the significance of building a
student resume and keeping records, the
importance of having a disciplined plan
and the power of building a portfolio.
Rebecca Bowman is a McMurray business
owner. She’s both a professional civil
engineer and an attorney, currently
serving on both the Construction Appeals
Board and the Vice President of the School
Board. She lectures internationally, is
in the process of producing the second
edition of her contracting handbook and
is a columnist.
