For the past 58 years , the Peters Township Parks and Recreation Board has been ensuring fun for the residents of Peters Township .
The Parks and Recreation Board was founded in 1959 to assist the Township ’ s Board of Supervisors , and sometimes govern directly on recreation issues .
Today , the Parks and Recreation Board is advisory and recommends policies and programs designed to meet the leisure needs of all age groups . The Board assists in reviewing proposed improvements to the Township ’ s park system and recommends open spaces proposed for dedication by developers . The Parks and Recreation Board also helps to govern the Youth Sports Associations that work closely with the Township .
Meetings are held on the third Thursday of each month at 6 p . m . in the Conference Room of the Community Recreation Center . Members discuss a wide range of topics including Youth Sports Association issues , Eagle Scout projects , capital improvements , special park use requests , policies and more .
“ The Parks and Recreation Board is important to Peters Township because its members are Township residents who

have a vested interest in the community that they live in and are a part of ,” says Michele Harmel , Parks and Recreation Director . “ Members serving on the Board offer different views and opinions about changes and programs within the Township , and that helps us bring the best we can to the Township .”
Four of the Parks and Recreation Board positions are appointed by the Township . When a Board position becomes available , the Township will advertise for residents to submit a letter and resume to Council . Then , Council will conduct interviews and make an appointment to the Board .
Three of the Board positions are recommended by the
School Board . The School Board separately advertises and interviews for open board positions , when they become available . The School Board then makes a recommendation to Council , who appoints the positions . “ Because the Township and School District work so closely , it is important to have some members that can share information between the two entities ,” says Harmel .
