The idea formulated when Mary Smolter , Saint Alexis Middle School teacher and Student Council moderator , connected with alumna Saint Alexis parent and volunteer at Jubilee Kitchen Debbie Viducich of Mars .
“ Statistics show that socks are the most needed item for the homeless , but they are also the least donated ,” says Viducich . “ We rely on donations since we have no funding from any other sources .”
Smolter said the students felt that donating items that soup kitchen guests are in need of was very meaningful . Those who donated socks were awarded an “ out of uniform day .”
Jubilee Kitchen serves lunch 365 days a year and serves up to 125 people a day .

Garden lovers of all ages learned about the perfect flora , fauna and furniture to construct a magical miniature garden to lure fairies at The Fairy Gardening Class at Soergel

As part of Soergel Garden Center ’ s Educational Class Series , gardening expert Donna Marie Oster gave an animated speech about the origin , history and tastes of fairies to inspire students to create their own indoor or outdoor fairy gardens .

WAFFLES , INCAFFEINATED OPENS THIRD LOCATION
Waffles , INCaffeinated , an award winning , full service , breakfast and lunch restaurant , has recently opened a third location in Wexford in front of North Allegheny High School . Waffles , INCaffeinated offers a freshly prepared , gourmet breakfast , featuring waffles and omelets that include design your own options . The waffles menu includes sweet items such as the “ Megaberry ” as well as savory items such as the “ Breakfast Magic ”. Their menu is completed with French toast , breakfast sandwiches and crepe selections , as well as an array of coffee drinks including cappuccino and latte . Hours are 8 a . m . to 2 p . m . Monday through Friday and 8 a . m . to 3 p . m . Saturday and Sunday .
HOPE HOSPICE SEEKS VOLUNTEERS
Hope Hospice is looking for volunteers to visit hospice patients , either in patient homes or in a facility . To simply listen or reminisce with someone who is dealing with a life‐threatening illness can make a big difference ! A one-hour training program is provided , with an emphasis on compassionate care toward patients and their families , and the time commitment is flexible .
