The March for Parks supporters really stepped it up this year and helped to raise more than $ 98,000 for the Westmoreland County Parks and the Turtle Creek Rail-Trail that will run from Export through Murrysville and into Trafford . The next March for Parks event will be Saturday , March 25 , 2017 , at the Murrysville SportZone . Save the date !
Our Egg Hunt was offered at Murrysville Community Park for dogs and kids alike and the Department saw the largest attendance to date with more than 400 kids and family members eager to hunt for eggs ! Our loyal sponsors provided refreshments for our hungry egg-hunters , numerous community businesses and organizations provided activities , and the National Honor Society from Franklin Regional High School volunteered ; it was truly a community event ! Next year ’ s egg hunts will be on Friday , April 7 , 2017 , and will be pre-registration only , so please call or email to pre-register !
The Farmers ’ Market was incredibly popular again this summer . Even on rainy June days , the Market ’ s devoted customers sloshed their way through the field to enjoy the fresh produce , baked goods and delicious meals “ to-go .”
Offered in conjunction with the Murrysville Volunteer Fire Company ( MVFC ), the Market ran Thursdays 3:00-7:00 p . m ., June through September , at the MVFC Field on Sardis Road . Shoppers

enjoyed approximately 30 vendors offering local produce , organic meats , organic produce , plants and flowers , kettle corn , wood-fired pizza and BBQ meats available for a nice picnic or packaged for dinner , ice cream , chicken sandwiches and hamburgers , sno-cones and funnel cakes , delicious baked goods and so much more ! The Farmhouse Kids ’ Club for children ages 3-12 , sponsored again by First Commonwealth Bank , saw 151 families , 254 children for 419 visits over 13 sessions . Being free to join , members participated in weekly activities such as produce sampling , scavenger hunts , flower planting , meeting live animals and more . By completing each week ’ s activity , members “ earned ” a wooden coin worth $ 2.00 that could be spent with any of the Market vendors . In its second season , the Department saw many children return from last year and gained many new members , as well . The coin program at the Farmhouse Kids ’ Club was again well-received by both the families and vendors , as it teaches money-management and healthy eating habits , and generated $ 1,298.00 in revenue to our vendors ! The Market will open for a third season in 2017 , June 1 to September 28 .
