The Murrysville Police Department continues each day to foster positive relationships with residents , merchants , school staff and students . Our mission is to provide the best possible police services to the community through the dedicated work of our highly trained and professional police officers . Providing the officers with the most advanced equipment and technology enhances police operations and , in turn , helps us to do a better job for you . Because of our efforts , Murrysville remains a safe community , and a great community to live and work .
The following is an overview of the Murrysville Police Department ’ s accomplishments in 2016 :
Police testing process was conducted to establish a police eligibility list . Thereafter , Nate Ferree was hired as the department ’ s newest police officer .
Officers Mastorovich and Sadlowe were honored by the Chief and presented “ Medals of Valor ” for their actions in saving lives and stopping an armed suspect during a robbery at a local business .
Thanks to public donations to the Murrysville Police Department , funds were used to replace officers ’ duty weapons .
One-third of the mobile and portable radios were replaced due to age . A schedule is in place to have all remaining radios replaced over the next two years .
Murrysville Police Department ’ s staff , local businesses , and residents joined together to help raise funds for an officer ’ s ailing child .
Preemption emitters were installed in the police vehicles to enable and assist officers through an intersection while responding to an emergency call .
Chief Seefeld was appointed to the Indiana University of Pennsylvania ’ s Criminal Justice Training Center Steering Committee .
Training received by Murrysville Police Department ’ s Staff : Sergeant Chafin attended Police Supervisory training ( POSIT ).
Crime prevention officer received training on “ Catch Me If You Can .” The training instruction focused on crimes involving fraud and scams .
Murrysville Police Department ’ s staff received re-certification training on CPR , AED , and First Aid .
Officers received monthly on-line training on various subject matters . Officers received firearms re-certification training . Officers received training on revisions with the DUI and Search and Seizure laws . Officer Coleman received training on “ Fire Dynamics .” Officers received training on administering Nalaxone ( Narcan ). Officer Coleman received instructor ’ s training on Active Shooter .
Officers received re-certification training on PPCT ( Pressure Points and Control Tactics ) defensive tactics , taser , OC ( chemical spray ), baton and spontaneous knife defense .
Detective Sergeant Kusinsky received training on Crime Scene Investigator and Social Networking crimes .
Detective Devlin received training on Sexual Assault Investigations , Social Networking crimes , and Drug Trends and Identification .
Administrative Assistant Smith received Notary Certification . Officers received updated training on changing laws .
Training Provided to the Public : CRASE ( Civilian Response to Active Shooter Events ) instructors provided several training sessions to municipal administrative staff , police department administrative assistants , school officials , community business workers , and other community stakeholders .
Officer Coleman assisted with providing instruction at the Huntington ’ s Disease Society of America ’ s National Conference in Baltimore , MD .
Canine Sergeant Kettren presented several public sessions on the duties and functions of the Canine Unit .
Crime Prevention officers held several training sessions with the public to discuss crime , prevention tips , and other matters of importance .
Officers participated in providing “ Reality Tour ” instruction to educate the public about drug use and consequences .
Major Events Attended : Several officers attended the 9 / 11 Tribute at Murrysville Community Park marking the 15th anniversary of the 9 / 11 attack .
Several officers attended the “ Strengthening the Thin Blue Line ” tribute at the Murrysville Alliance Church .
Several department members participated in the Community Day event at Murrysville Community Park .
Chief Seefeld attended a “ Chiefs ’ Roundtable ” session with United States Senator Pat Toomey .
Officers Mastorovich and Sadlowe , along with other Murrysville Police Department officers , attended the Amen Corner , 16th Annual Senator John Heinz Law Enforcement Awards Luncheon . Officers Mastorovich and Sadlowe received the “ Starsky and Hutch ” award for their heroic acts of courage during the April 20 , 2016 , shooting incident .
