mlpl MT. LEBANON PUBLIC LIBRARY CALENDAR OF EVENTS For the past 15 years, Eve Shatoff has been one of Mt. Lebanon Public Library’s most dedicated volunteers—giving 400+ hours per year on average. Eve started out processing books, and her volunteer duties now include unpacking the delivery bins that come from Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh and dating the books with the yellow stickers. In addition, she adds up the reference questions from the Adult and Children’s reference desks and the Monthly Reference Statistics sheets answered by the Circulation Desk. Last year she began work on a library scrapbook project. Q: How did you get started volunteering at the library? A: Fifteen years ago, I was looking for a job and applied for a position at Scott Township Library. The person responsible for filling the position e-mailed me to inform me that the position was given to a library volunteer. I decided to find a library to volunteer at, so hopefully I could eventually get a job at a library. I looked at several libraries, and Mt. Lebanon Public Library was one that was willing to take me on as a volunteer. Q: What is your favorite part of volunteering at the library? A: I like dating the books with the yellow stickers that come in the delivery bins from Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh. I also enjoy working on the library’s scrapbook project. Q: What keeps you coming back as a volunteer? A: I like the people I work with and the work I do at the library. Q: Have you always been interested in libraries and why? A: I became interested in libraries when I was in college at California University of Pennsylvania. I found the campus library to be a quiet place to study. I like that I can check out books from the library for free, and there is a wide selection of books to choose from. Q: What are you currently reading? A: I am reading the book Stick Figure: A Diary of My Former Self by Lori Gottlieb. Q: What is your favorite work of fiction or non-fiction?
