YES , YOU CAN DANCE ! CELEBRATES FIVE YEARS
Anniversary Kickoff Celebration
To celebrate five years of transforming lives through the power of dance , Yes , You Can Dance ! ( YYCD ) hosted an anniversary kickoff celebration , Saturday , Nov . 5 . The celebration brought together YYCD students , volunteers and supporters for refreshments and , of course , dancing !
The event took place at The Boiler Room in Pittsburgh . Chris Roth , Director of Curriculum and Instruction , was honored for his outstanding service and significant contributions to YYCD .
“ This is the first of several exciting events and we are thrilled to mark the start of our yearlong anniversary celebration by honoring Chris Roth ,” said Deborah Fidel , Executive Director , YYCD . “ He has developed our curricula from the ground up and has helped us build the Yes , You Can Dance ! community to include Special Needs Ballroom , MS Ballroom and Senior Socials .”
Susan Fancsali , USA National Miss Pennsylvania 2017 , was in attendance at the event .
In addition , YYCD announced Deborah Rosen Fidel as the organization ’ s first full-time executive director . Based in Mt . Lebanon , YYCD offers classes in both the South Hills and North Hills .
The new executive director will take Yes , You Can Dance ! to the next level as it celebrates its five-year anniversary . The celebration was the first of several exciting
RESIDENTS URGED TO CHANGE BATTERIES IN DETECTORS
Allegheny County Emergency Services Chief Matt Brown reminded residents to change the batteries in their smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors . Battery checks on these devices are recommended around Daylight Saving Time changes to promote an easy-to-remember time of year to think about safety .
“ Daylight Saving Time provides a perfect opportunity to increase awareness in the community about the life-saving benefits of smoke alarms ,” said Brown . “ Smoke alarms can ’ t do their jobs , however , if the batteries have died , so checking the batteries is just as important . Age matters as well when it comes to your smoke alarms , and the alarms should be replaced every 10 years , so check the manufacture date on yours today .”

Smoke alarms detect and alert people to fire in its early stages , giving them the time needed to escape safely . When working properly , smoke alarms can mean the difference between life and death . More than one-third ( 38 %) of home fire deaths result from fires in which no smoke alarms are present . The risk of dying in a home fire is cut in half in homes with working smoke alarms , while three out of five home fire deaths result from fires in properties without
