MONROEVILLE ARTS COUNCIL
MAC’s SPRING and SUMMER
EVENTS 2017
WHO KNEW that a small but dedicated group of volunteers
could provide such a vast array of cultural events for the community!
Monroeville Arts Council board members have been hard at work
designing activities to promote the arts, as has been MAC’s mission
since 1980. A variety of exciting art and music related events are in
store for the community once again this year.
Art and craft workshops, art for children, July concerts, enrichment
for Sunrise School students and Gateway high school student awards
are all offered by this inspired group of volunteers with the continued
support of UPMC East,
community donors’
contributions and MAC
members’ commitment.
Sunday afternoon
concerts in July will
continue this year with
popular live bands on July 9,
16 and 23 from 4 to
6 p.m. Judy Figel,
Etta Cox and East
Winds Symphonic
Band will perform.
Attendees enjoy
these opportunities

Educational Outreach Art Workshops will be offered this fall in
the Monroeville Public Library Program Room to provide a wide
range of forms of artistic expression. Drawing- including pencils
and pastels- and painting using watercolor or acrylics are among the
seemingly endless possibilities offered to artists and potential artists to
experience and express themselves. All levels are welcome and there is
no charge to the public for instruction. Non-members pay a nominal
$10 materials fee.
The next offering will be a Watercolor Painting Workshop conducted
by former Artist of the Year in Greensburg, Sue Laansma Pollins, on
Oct. 21, from 2 to 4 p.m.
A first ever Crafting Workshop, that took place
on April 29 at the library, offered a variety of craft
opportunities including beading, decoupage,
bath accessory creations, face and arm painting
techniques and more to eager participants of ages
13 years and older.
Each summer, youngsters of the area can enjoy
a free Kids’ Art in the Park that takes place on the
third Saturday of June at Monroeville Community
Park West. This year’s event will be on June 17,
with activities available from 9:45 a.m. to 3 p.m.-
rain or shine. Children of all ages are welcome. A
parent or guardian must be in attendance. Both
Monroeville Recreation and Parks and Pat Catan’s
of Monroeville help the volunteers to meet the
artistic and creative needs of the youths attending.
MAC is always looking for new faces to support
its various events. Call 412.373.0277 for ways you
can encourage and participate in these activities,
designed to enrich the community. Additional
information regarding MAC’s events may be found
