EMS STRONG : Committed to our Community
It ’ s more than lights and sirens , it ’ s about helping others , being there for people in their time of need . It ’ s about serving others , every day , selflessly , and being ready to assist our communities when help is needed . As National EMS week approaches , Millcreek Paramedic Service urges those in our community to celebrate , unite and inspire the men and women of our community ’ s emergency medical services .
The American College of Emergency Physicians ( ACEP ) was involved in establishing EMS Week when President Gerald Ford declared November 3-10 , 1974 as the first “ National Emergency Medical Services Week .” This annual observance continued for four more years and was then reinstituted by ACEP in 1982 . Around this time the observance of EMS Week was moved to September . In 1992 EMS Week was again moved to be the 3rd week in May . The move was made to separate EMS Week from Fire
Prevention week in October . The basis for the move was the majority of fire and EMS services felt having the two events back to back hurt the effectiveness of each program so EMS Week was moved to May .
EMS Week 2017 is May 21-27 .

Congratulations to EMT-B , Alicia Nuse , Millcreek Paramedic Services ’ Employee of the Quarter ! Alicia is a mother of two who takes great pride in her job . Alicia schedules and teaches the vast majority of our BLS training programs and CPR classes at the extended care facilities , dental offices , and fire departments . Alicia is also a Field
Training Officer and traines new employees , specifically in the area of documentation . Alicia was recently appointed to be the chair of the safety committee . Alicia has been a great asset to the company since her start with MPS in February of 2015 , and we look forward to having her continue for years to come ! Congratulations to Alicia !
The ACEP is pairing with NAEMT ( National Association of EMT ’ s ) to present the EMS Strong campaign . EMS Strong will make EMS week a 365-day a year initiative to give EMS a greater visibility among other health professions and communities . Putting Emergency Medical Services where it belongs ; as a crucial part of the healthcare field .
It takes a special kind of person to care for others , to rise to the call of duty each time they walk through the doors at work . When you see your local first responders give them a wave or thank them for their service because without them this world would be a much different place .
