Donate Furniture and Household Items
Established in 2014 , Embracing Our Veterans assists veterans and their families who cannot receive traditional help through the VA or other organizations . They have partnered with the VA Homeless Care Team , Salvation Army , Sight Center , Big Lots West , and other organizations to aid veterans transitioning from homelessness into apartments .
Since August of 2016 , their efforts have transitioned more than 30 veterans and their families into safe , affordable housing . In doing so , some veterans have been able to return to work .
Donations of furniture , beds , tables and chairs , and other necessities for daily living are accepted ., as well as dishes , silverware , pots and pans , and both small and major appliances in good working condition . Their team of volunteers are available to pick up any items you no longer use , which will be given to veterans who often have nothing but the clothes on their backs .
Twice a year , Embracing Our Veterans holds a rummage sale of items they are unable to give to veterans , and the proceeds are , then , used to help veterans with issues such as overdue bills , legal fees , gas cards to get back and forth to work , grocery gift cards , car repairs , down payment for a vehicle to get to work or needed appointments , or with other emergency needs the veteran communicates to us .
Donating Durable Medical Equipment
Chosen of Erie , PA at 3638 West 26th Street was started to meet the needs of our neighbors and has been doing so for quite some time . Chosen distributes nearly 20 pieces of home health care items per week to members in this community . They are able to provide , through donations of the community , a variety of medical equipment throughout Erie County .
As we are cleaning out our homes and garages this spring , please remember this organization that recycles and reuses the equipment that once helped one person live a safer , more independent life . Chosen is unable to accept hospital beds due to space limitations . However , they are willing to accept items such as walkers , wheelchairs , canes , crutches , bedside commodes , shower chairs or shower transfer benches , and even grab bars ! They will accept daily activity equipment such as shoehorns , reachers , or sock aides . They have been able to accommodate larger items such as lifts and lift chairs . Items can be dropped off at the West 26th Street location Monday-Thursday 8am to 3 p . m . and Friday 8 a . m . to 2 p . m .
Donating Used Musical Instruments
Now in its 6th year of operation , Music for Veterans continues its mission of improving the lives of Veterans by offering a creative environment of music and camaraderie . But as a nonprofit , the organization is only able to provide these services through the assistance of the people and organizations in our community . Unfortunately , there are thousands of instruments in basements , closets and attics that are wasting away each day when they could be put to good use by the Music for Veterans Program . The contribution of a musical instrument allows the program to offer our Veterans the great benefits of music – free of charge . The peace Veterans find playing music not only
