The Phi Beta Lambda organization at the University of
Pittsburgh held their Ninth Annual Pitt’s Business Leaders
Conference for high school freshmen, sophomores, juniors,
and seniors with an interest in business. Our MASD students
were able to participate. The Conference was held at the
University of Pittsburgh’s Oakland Campus on Friday,
March 3rd.
The event included a keynote speaker, interactive
workshops, and lunch for the students and their high
school chaperones/faculty. This year’s keynote speaker was
Carol Neyland, current Senior Vice President of Community
Development at Dollar Bank. Ms. Neyland has over 30
years of experience in the financial services sector as well as
serving on a number of non-profit boards. As a commercial
lender, one of Ms. Neyland’s biggest accomplishments
was arranging the $400 million financing of 900 North
Michigan, one of the nation’s tallest skyscrapers. As a
Business Development Officer for Mellon Private Wealth
Management, she also brought in more than $69 million in
assets over a two-and-a-half-year period.
The Conference’s workshops were focused around
developing strategic professionalism and building a variety
of business-oriented skills to enhance students’ leadership
within their high school’s FBLA chapter and prepare
them for further involvement in PBL at the collegiate
level. Additionally, the students heard from some of Pitt’s
brightest minds about self-presentation, self-discovery,
and self-development outside of the classroom.
