WESTMORELAND COUNTY PARKS AND TRAILS TO HOST TWO COMEDY NIGHTS
Laugh away the winter blues at two Comedy Nights hosted by Westmoreland County Parks and Recreation and the Westmoreland Heritage and Five Star Trail chapters !
The Westmoreland Heritage and Five Star Trails will be hosting a Comedy Night on Saturday , Feb . 18 , at the Delmont Volunteer Fire Department Hall . Tickets are $ 30 per person and include dinner . All proceeds benefit the ongoing maintenance of the Westmoreland Heritage and Five Star Trails .
Westmoreland County Parks will be hosting a second Comedy Night on Friday , Mar . 3 , at the Youngwood Fire Hall . Tickets are $ 30 and include dinner from Leo and Sons Grille 31 . All proceeds benefit park and trail projects in Westmoreland County .
Both shows will feature professional comedians who have toured the Pittsburgh comedy circuit , raffles , 50 / 50 drawings , auctions and more ! Doors open at 6 p . m . and the shows are recommended for ages 21 and up .
Tickets for the Delmont show are available at Ferri ’ s Pharmacy in Murrysville , the Lamplighter Restaurant in Delmont and the Westmoreland County Parks and Recreation office in Greensburg , or by calling 724.733.3661 . MAY MART WITH GREENSBURG GARDEN CENTER
Greensburg Garden Center will host its annual “ May Mart ” this year on Friday , May 6 , from noon to 7 p . m . and Saturday , May 7 , from 9 a . m . to 1 p . m . ‘ LONDON CALLING ’ WITH THE WESTMORELAND SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA
The Westmoreland Symphony Orchestra presented London Calling on Jan . 28 at the Palace Theatre in Greensburg .
The concert opened with Haydn ’ s Symphony No . 1 “ The Clock ,” followed by American cellist Cicely Parnas performing Elgar ’ s “ Cello Concerto .” The evening concluded with Maxwell Davies ’ “ An Orkney Wedding , with Sunrise .”
Parnas , praised for her “ velvety sound , articulate passagework and keen imagination ” ( The New York Times ), performs recitals , concertos and educational outreach throughout the country . She
started playing the cello at the age of four and made her concerto debut at 11 with the Woodstock Chamber Orchestra . Parnas has studied with cellists Peter Wiley and Ronald Feldman , and earned an Artist Diploma from Indiana University ’ s Jacobs School of Music , where she worked with Sharon Robinson . She performs on a 1712 Giovanni Grancino cello .
Parnas was named an inaugural Young Artist in Residence on NPR ’ s “ Performance Today ” in 2011 , where she was featured in five broadcasts and an American Public Media video spotlight . Winner of the 2012 Young Concert Artists International Auditions , she was presented last season in debuts at Merkin Concert Hall and the Kennedy Center to rave reviews . She was the recipient of YCA ’ s Mortimer Levitt Career
Development Award for Women Artists in 2012 . She also captured First Prize in the 2011 Cello Concerto Competition at Indiana University ’ s Jacobs School of Music .
WSO Artistic Director Daniel Meyer conducted the evening ’ s performance . As Music Director of the Erie Philharmonic and the Asheville Symphony , Meyer is recognized as one of the top young conductors of his generation .
