It took a lot of hard work to plan and organize the birthday celebration , according to Sydney . She was also nervous about asking for donations , although all the business owners were very supportive . Sydney ’ s birthday is in August , but it took several months to organize the fundraiser . In the end , it was worth the effort .
“ Sydney was very excited about the party and proud of herself , too ,” Kim says . “ She felt good about making sure other kids could have birthday parties like she had growing up .”
Sydney has participated in several other service-oriented projects , including environmental programs , and will complete more in the future . In second grade , she donated 10 inches of hair to children with cancer .
“ Sydney has a natural spirit of service ,” her mother explains .
