Residents should have received the
first of several mailings regarding the
new trash and recycling contract.
The Board of Supervisors recently awarded a new, three (3)
year solid waste and recycling contract to Waste Management,
effective January 1, 2017 through December 31, 2019. The new
contract continues to provide for unlimited weekly trash
collection and bi-weekly recycling collection. The new contract is
structured to provide price stability to residents over a three year
period and offer a service that is convenient, insures maximum
participation, and promotes waste reduction.
Weekly collection will be changed from Tuesday to a five-daya-week pickup. The first mailing regarding the new pickup
schedule was mailed out by Waste Management on December
12th. Please look for a second mailing from Waste Management
the week of December 26th. Residents will be billed a flat $50.07
per quarter, which constitutes a small decrease from the previous
contract. A senior citizen discount of 10% is available for those
eligible residents who have turned 62 years of age. Please contact
Beverly at the Township office to set up your senior discount. The
new contract also included provisions for two consecutive, one
(1) year options for 2020 and 2021. Quarterly rates for those years
would be $53.61 and $55.74 respectively.
Please note that $50.07 is the base bid. The Board of
Supervisors is considering implementing the use of a new
recycling container for next year. It would be a 65 gallon
container with wheels. There would be an additional fee of
$2.25 per quarter, for a total of $52.32 per quarter. Usage of
the new containers would be effective April 1, 2017.
Recyclables for pickup
include bi-metallic and
aluminum cans, clear and
colored glass, and plastic
containers (HDPE PET types
1-7). Collection of newspaper
and magazine print will continue to be provided.
Residents and businesses are reminded that it shall be unlawful
for any person to collect and/or transport waste from any
residential, public, commercial, industrial or institutional
establishment within the Township without first obtaining a
license to do so. In addition, all households, homeowners, and
commercial and institutional establishments within the Township
shall utilize the services of a licensed collector for disposal of their
domestic waste or household waste and shall pay the charges
billed by the licensed collector for such services.
The following page reflects the new schedule for garbage and
recycling collection days. A complete brochure and schedule will
be mailed the week of December 26th from Waste Management.
Please keep an eye out for it.
