recent paint night hosted
by the Canon-McMillan
High School Society of
Exceptional Citizens was a huge
success!
The event was held in October
and spearheaded by Art Club
President Rylie McGrady, who
guided students in SEC—open
to high school students both
with and without special needs.
Visual arts teacher Ashley Van
Auken and SEC club sponsor
and special education teacher
Sherree Mohler lauded the
students involved—and said
they were proud of the impact
the event had on all involved.
It also presented a chance
for students to get to know one
another.
“It was a great opportunity for
our students with special needs
to socialize with other peers
from the high school,” Ms. Van
Auken said.
Hills-Hendersonville Students Training for Marathon
W
e wanted to give a shout out to the students of
Hills-Hendersonville Elementary School, who
will be training all year for the Kids of STEEL
Pittsburgh Marathon Race.
The race, which will be held in May, is part of an
exercise and nutrition program designed to motivate
children to pursue an active lifestyle punctuated by
healthy eating choices.
During the training period, children will:
• Complete physical activity goals
• Try new and healthy foods
• Learn about how to effectively set a goal and then
train to achieve it
• Track their activities and progress
Last year, more than 120 schools—that’s about 6,000
children—participated in Kids of STEEL program.
We wish them the best of luck as they continue their
training, and invite you to check out these photos from
Hills-Hendersonville’s recent Family Training Night!
